“The Sumi are more spiritual than reality, an abstraction of reality. Not only that which exists physically but especially the memories and desires that surround it…”
The Sumi take their inspiration from the traditional Japanese ink paintings Sumi-é, a derivative of calligraphy. They each consist of two color groups. The traditional black ink with water has been replaced by oil paint with a gloss medium. Originally the Sumi were painted on PVC for industrial printing. In addition to that the artist started a new series painted on Canvas and on Paper.
Art-line focuses on the Sumi series developed by the artist Guido Vrolix since 1993, created especially as a bridge between the unique and the affordable.
